Asperatus clouds

This is today's Astronomy Picture of the Day. (It's a site maintained by NASA.) These are called asperatus clouds. The shot was taken over New Zealand. Pretty cool, huh? According to the short article, asperatus clouds are "stunning in appearance, unusual in occurrence, are relatively unstudied, and have even been suggested as a new type of cloud."
