The video below is called "Dock Ellis and the LSD No-No". I found it a couple of years back and it's a wonderful story that deserves a larger audience. The man pitched a no-hitter on acid! It's clearly impossible yet it happened. The story is right out of another era. Watching it is like revisiting those days.
Dock told the story to an interviewer who recorded it, and then someone else made this animation to go along with it. You have to remember that this was back in the day when dropping acid was a casual thing. Yes, we were actually casual about tripping, if you can imagine such a thing.
Anyway, it's a funny, strange, true story that's a part of baseball history. And now it's a fun 'toon. Here it is.
(But first a PS: Every story has a moral. Dock Ellis' life was, by all reports, wrecked by drugs. This was his time to shine but it didn't last. Nevertheless, I love this tale. And Dock's later problems do not alter the fact that the man pitched a no-hitter on acid!)
