Siri and I

I spoke to Siri, Apple's digital assistant, yesterday on my nephew's new iPhone 4S. She worked like magic.

In my gruff voice that many people find hard to hear, I asked Siri how far it was from the Earth to the moon. She printed back my question, to be sure it was correct. It was. Then she answered it precisely.

Amazing toy. We all need this.

Hm, first my son, then you and yesterday my son-in-law tells me of this Siri phenom.

I wonder if this gadget has such wide appeal to the female audience? It doesn't strike me as something I couldn't live without. Which shouldn't seem too odd since I still have to crank my phone to get an operator when I want to make a call.

Wouldn't you like access to Watson? Siri seems similar. I can't believe the capability of this thing. I don't think it should be a set "she", though. Why not leave the sex of the voice up to the user? And the name too? I'm sure some people would like a male Jeeves. It would be more fun if you could name it anything you like. "God" might be fun. "Hey God, find me a coffee shop nearby." It might alter the god/people relationship for the better.
