Best baseball opening day ever

I had a great time watching the first games of the baseball season yesterday. I was sick with the flu (or whatever) but I hardly noticed.

The Mets won their game 11-2. John Niese -- one of my favorite pitchers -- was terrific. It was a pleasure to see the team play this well on the first day of the season.

But that was nothing compared to the Washington Nationals game. Baseball god Bryce Harper, after hitting .478 in spring training, hit a home run in each of his first two at-bats. And he threw a ball pefectly, all the way from the outfield to home plate, and started one of the best double-plays I've ever seen.

As if that wasn't enough, the Red Sox capped off the day by trouncing the evil Yankees. Seriously: Best. Opening Day. Ever.

Dempster. All right!

I just read the news. Ryan Dempster signed with the Red Sox. I couldn't be happier. Mind you, I haven't watched a Red Sox game recently -- but I'm back with the team, for sure. I love this guy. I mean, have you seen his Harry Caray impression? And he can pitch!

This is just what I needed because I've been laid low by the Mets' appalling trade of Cy Young winner RA Dickey. How could they do that? First they traded Reyes, and now Dickey. This is all about Fred Wilpon, the cheesy owner of the Mets, who entrusted his money to Bernie Madoff. He lost big-time so he's going to bleed the Mets and run off with every last cent -- and the hell with the fans. I'm not going to watch one Mets game this year. So there.

And who cares? I've got my Red Sox back. I used to love them but really, I haven't been happy with the team since the whole Manny thing went down. Manny was low. Really low. So this Dempster news is much-needed. And you know what? He's going to love it in Boston, and the fans will welcome him with open arms. Ryan Dempster is a Red Sox pitcher. Very cool.

Did Bobby Valentine throw the Yanks a win?

I was surprised when I saw the probable pitchers for last night's Red Sox/Yankees game. I mean, this was a very important game for the Yanks. If they lost and the Orioles won, the division title would still be in play today.

So what did the evil Red Sox skipper dear, sweet, ethical Bobby Valentine do? He put Daisuke Matsuzaka on the mound. Dice-K is, by far, the worst pitcher on the Red Sox team. So why would the evil Red Sox skipper dear, sweet, ethical Bobby Valentine do this? I think he threw a win to the Yankees, partly as a way to stab his own team (every member of which hates both Valentine and the Yankees) and maybe as part of a deal to secure a future favor from the Yanks. I wouldn't put it past him.

In any case, the Yanks won their division. Who cares? My Nats have the best record in MLB baseball. Take that, Giardi.

Baseball thing

I wonder if the Red Sox will purposely fall to the Orioles this weekend. The Orioles are neck-and-neck with the Yankees right now. If I was a Sox player, let's just say I wouldn't play real hard this weekend. Then again, they play so badly it probably won't make a difference either way. I hope the Orioles sweep them. Boo, Yankees! How I detest that team.

Meanwhile, my Nats "clinched a playoff berth", as they say. They're in. It's just a baby step on the road to the division championship, but they've done it. The NLDS is the win that matters to me. Baseball's over before the WS starts. That's all I have to say. Over and out. (Which I'm told is repetitious. Really, you just say "Out". There is no "over". Who knew? See what movies do to your brain?)

Even the Red Sox are doing it!

I was happy to see a story about the Red Sox making an "It Gets Better" video. Yay, my team's doing it. Now if only the Mets would jump in. We need major sports teams to come out for gay people and say bullying is uncool. Who knows? This may make a big difference. Anyway, I'm proud of my guys. Way to go!

Now, about those other teams. Ready to step up, fellas? Now's the time. (PS: The Cubs did one too.)

Here's my entry, by the way.
