Mayor Mikey Jackboots

So mayor Mikey Bloomberg wants super-sized sodas off the menu. Because he cares about people so much. Uh-huh. And then he sends his troops out nightly to scour the city for young people of color to harass and intimidate.

I swear this frisking of young people, based totally on race, drives me wild. And he doesn't even see anything wrong with it. When questioned about it, he says, "It's working." The man doesn't get it. He is blind to the existence of other people. To Mikey, there's only him and his rich friends living on this Earth.

Perhaps this will wake him up a bit. This practice has to end immediately.

Bloomberg's remarks on gay marriage bittersweet

Isn't it marvelous? Mikey Bloomberg trotted off to North Carolina to give a commencement speech in which he chastised NC for outlawing gay marriage. He looks like such a good guy in his festive gown, doesn't he? Goshes. Here's an excerpt from his remarks:
"Each and every generation has removed some barrier to full participation in the American dream. That work is not over. Far from it," Bloomberg said. "And I would argue last week’s referendum banning same-sex marriage shows just how much more work needs to be done to ensure freedom and equality for all people."
Watta guy, huh? But here in NYC we know the real Mayor Mikey Bloomberg. And there is no doubt that he is the enemy of every citizen of color who doesn't have a million dollars in his bank account. Read today's NYT editorial -- The Injustices of Stop and Frisk -- for the other side of the story.

Champion of human rights? I don't think so. Mikey cleaves closely to the Nazi side of the aisle. He is utterly contemptible.

Jackboots will be the norm

This out today:
NEW YORK (AP) — President Barack Obama's top counterterrorism adviser is praising the New York Police Department's work. He says the department has struck a balance between keeping people safe and protecting their rights.
Indeed. NYC, which has become the SWAT/jackboots/community-spying/minority-frisking capital of America under Mikey Bloomberg, is now the model to be emulated, according to our Nobel Peace Prize-winning president.

You hear that fat lady singing? It's all over kids. Welcome to the new America. You're not gonna like it much -- unless you're rich.

Bloomberg's sudden change of heart

Michael Bloomberg, the Mayor of Money
The Mayor of Money, Michael Bloomberg, actually did something constructive this week. This article may explain why. I've said it here before: Bloomberg has been a monster toward young people of color.

Here's an excerpt from another article that explains the problem:
Just over 50,000 people were arrested on marijuana possession charges last year, a vast majority of them members of minorities and male. Critics say that as part of the Police Department's stop-and-frisk policy, officers routinely tell suspects to empty their pockets and then, if marijuana is displayed, arrest them for having the drugs in public view, thereby pushing thousands of people toward criminality and into criminal justice system.
Bloomberg duped young people of color so he could arrest them. That's the simple, verifiable truth. He sees New York City as a place for rich people and only rich people. And you know what color rich people are. So he gets his police to yank the people of color off the streets and thinks this makes the city more welcoming for rich, white people. It's that stark.

The "good news" is that he's finally directed the police commissioner to have officers, you know, follow the law. They can no longer trick young people of color into showing the (decriminalized small amount of) marijuana, and then arrest them for following an order. This has been going on for years. I hope a class action brings tons of money to the young people whose lives were derailed by this white man's "justice".

Mikey Bloomberg loves them jackboots

The Mayor of Money.
I always get a kick out of watching Mike Bloomberg talk. The man is so unconnected to normal life.

Today he appeared on live TV to tell New Yorkers what they had to do because of the hurricane. He loves that have to do stuff. Essentially, he is a rich person who protects the rights of rich people and businesses. But he also adores authoritarianism. (Just check his city's marijuana arrest records.) Show him some jackboots and he starts drooling, wanting to lick the soles.

Watching him on the teevee today, it seemed he really enjoyed telling people they'd have to evacuate their homes. But he also seemed to hate the flip side of this authoritarianism: having to offer shelter to those thrown out on the streets. Each time he had to say something like "shelters will be open to receive the displaced", he said the words quickly, to get them out of his way. Those words didn't matter to him. And when he switched back to the pushy, authoritarian stuff, his voice became more powerful. He spoke with gusto about shutting down subways and buses and forcing evacuations of huge swathes of New York. Mikey likey.

The little people don't exist in Mayor Mikey's mind. He's not the Mayor of New York, he's the Mayor of Money. That's a very different thing. Anyway, he's funny to watch. Thanks, Mikey. I needed a laugh.
