I've awakened in an alternate universe

That must be the answer, because I saw this today:
BERLIN (AP) — German bishops have agreed that Roman Catholic-run hospitals should be allowed to prescribe the morning-after pill to rape victims to prevent conception.
A Roman Catholic hospital doing the right thing?  Surely this can't be! But wait, there's more.
The German Bishops Conference issued the ruling at a regular meeting Thursday in the western city of Trier. But it said Catholic hospitals still can't prescribe drugs that would lead to the death of an embryo.
Phew. Same universe. For a moment, I was really worried. After all, in a parallel universe I might not have an iPad.

Good gay/church story

It's at HuffPo, I'm afraid, but it's a good story. If you like the gay guys to win (in a moral sense) and the bishops to lose (in every sense), you'll enjoy reading this.

Catholic bishops attack gay people at every opportunity and their actions are taking a toll on the church. Can we all admit that they looked like evil morons when they attacked American nuns last week? And let's not forget their recent foray into politics, where they trotted out a meaningless campaign about contraception and government, just to please the GOP.

They're not doing these things in the dark. Catholics see these actions and they are not pleased. Truly, the pope and the bishops are the greatest threats facing Roman Catholicism today. By their actions, the bishops show the church's true, evil face to the people. This does not go unnoticed.

Catholic bishops ooze with filth

God: "The bishops are intrinsically evil."
You already know the story about Obama, contraception and the evil Catholic bishops. Here's something from today's NY Times:
The bishops said the plan offered insufficient protection for their institutions: “In the case where the employee and insurer agree to add the objectionable coverage, that coverage is still provided as a part of the objecting employer’s plan, financed in the same way as the rest of the coverage offered by the objecting employer. This, too, raises serious moral concerns."
"PS, we rape children."
Okay, I added the last part but it belongs there, no? How can these oozing sores of catholicism pretend to speak about morality? They lost that right long ago. But at least some Catholic organizations see what's really going on. Here's another quote from the article:
James Salt, executive director of Catholics United, a liberal advocacy group that is organizing support for the Obama administration, said, “The bishops’ blanket opposition appears to serve the interests of a political agenda, not the needs of the American people.”
That's the truth: Roman Catholicism = GOP = NOM = filth. Wake up and see the church for what it is. It's a boil on the face of humanity and it needs to be excised.

Ahem

BRUSSELS (AP) — Belgian authorities on Monday raided the administrative offices of three Catholics bishops, part of an ongoing child abuse investigation that has previously raised the ire of the Vatican and church officials.

Over the past two years, more than 500 witnesses have come forward with accounts of molestation by Catholic clergy in Belgium, spanning several decades.
Just saying.

More fun from the bishops

Today from Associated Press:
BALTIMORE (AP) — The president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops says the church should not be dismissed as an outmoded bureaucracy. Archbishop Timothy Dolan says the church is a spiritual family that has much to teach the world.
. . . The archbishop . . . said bishops repent daily for their missteps . . . [b]ut he says the church should not be defined by its problems.
Indeed. The church should be defined by its actions against children, gays and women -- and that is exactly what's happening. It's the reason why Catholics are leaving the church in droves. In fact, we can hope that the church will soon collapse -- and good riddance.

The roman catholic church is going down

Victim. Ha!
There is a marvelously reassuring and chuckle-some article in the NY Times today about the "state of siege" that US Bishops seem to think they're under. In essence, they consider any externally imposed constraints on their ability to continue discriminating against gays and women to be an infringement of their inalienable "religious rights". These guys are so tone-deaf and immoral, it's shocking.

The article has wonderful quotes like this:
Scott Appleby, a prominent religious historian at the University of Notre Dame, says many church leaders have recently adopted "a more pugnacious style, much more of a kind of culture-wars attitude." At the same time, the bishops' have been stung by their loss of public influence from the sex abuse crisis and the years of bruising revelations that many dioceses moved guilty clergy among parishes without alerting parents or police.

"The church no longer receives deference or the hands-off attitude that it once had for many years. That's gone," Appleby said.
Duh. I wonder why. There are evil groups and there are evil groups. The roman catholic church is one of the truly evil groups. Go read the article. It's fun.
